KIDS' AFTERNOONS
Saturday, July 17th, 2010
Are you a mum (or dad) looking for ways to keep your precious one entertained?! Well, fear not! We’re introducing Kids Afternoons at the Jockey.
On Mondays from 12 til 4.30pm we’ll be showing kids’ shows on the TV in the Tap Room. There’ll be free yogurt and veggie sticks for kids, and Fruit Shoots on offer.
We’re also launching a new Children’s Menu, so if there’s anything you think we should feature on there, please let us know!
Not just on Kids Afternoons, but any time you visit, why not ask for a kids’ activity pack at the bar? This includes crayons and colouring books. Don’t forget too that we have a selection of board games to choose from.
We also sell a selection of cakes, cupcakes and scrummy desserts, hot drinks and plenty of cold drinks - oh my! While the kids play, Mums and Dads who lunch can enjoy our new menu options.

THE MORRIS MEN ARE COMING
Wednesday, June 30th, 2010
It's a tradition as old as the pub itself! Yes the morris dancers are back.
Manchester Morris Men will be performing at the Jockey at 7.30 on Thursday 15 July.
Let's hope the weather is better than last year when it rained so hard they had to perform inside!
SUMMER MENU LAUNCHING WEDS 23 JUNE
Tuesday, June 15th, 2010
It's hard to believe but the nights start to draw in after the Summer Solstice!
In keeping with the change of season, we're launching our summer menu at the Jockey on Weds 23 June.
There are no wholesale changes to the pub menu. Instead we're choosing to play to our strengths with just a few tweaks here and there:
- More varied selection of salads
- Gourmet burger section
- Pie of the day
The dining room menu, which also becomes the pub evening menu, is all new, reflecting the innovative style and considerable ability of our head chef, Craig Kirk, with dishes such as:
- Fillet and oxtail of Cumbrian beef with onions, mustard mash and red wine sauce
- Loin and confit leg of wild rabbit, cranberry jelly and pickled sweet carrots
- Asparagus, courgette and rosemary tart with poached egg and sorrel dressing
The full menu is listed on our food pages.
COUNTDOWN TO SUMMER SOLSTICE
Tuesday, June 15th, 2010
Just under a week to go now before our first Summer Solstice!
Monday 21 June is the longest day of the year, and has been marked by people of different cultures in different ways for many thousands of years.
We plan to mark the day in true Chorlton style, with an evening of fun lined up for all the family.
The fun starts at 6pm and continues outside until 9pm, later inside.
- 6-9 Hog roast (veggie option)
- 6-9 Mini rides, games and sideshows for the kids
- 6-8 Free face painting from Fizzical Graffiti
- 6.15-7.15 Balloon fun with Circus Zapparelli
- 7.30-8 Entertainment on the Green from Circus Zapparelli
- 8-8.30 Bucephalus Brass on the Terrace
- 9 onwards - the celebration moves inside with Bucephalus Brass
NB - Although we're planning on the weather being fine, most things are under cover, so this is a "rain or shine" event!
Once again, we will also be raising money on the night for Macmillan Cancer Care.
We look forward to seeing you down here - help us make this another date in the diary for Chorlton, just like we did for our Winter Solstice back in December.
WORLD CUP FREE ZONE
Monday, June 7th, 2010
The World Cup is almost upon us, so we thought we'd remind you that the Jockey is officially a World Cup Free Zone.
Of course we want our boys to do well, but we’ll not be showing any games here at the Jockey.
Instead, we’re running a Loyalty Card scheme.
Get your card stamped during each England game and build up points to spend after the tournament.
So, the more visits you make during England’s games, and the further our team progresses, the more points you’ll have to spend!
PICK UP YOUR LOYALTY CARD FROM THE BAR DURING ANY OF ENGLAND’S GAMES AND START SAVING!
Or simply print off the attached sheet and bring it along with you.

FATHER'S DAY SUN 20 JUNE
Monday, June 7th, 2010
Father's Day is almost upon us and what better way of showing dad how much we love him than treating him to a slap up Sunday roast here at the Jockey.
Bookings are now being taken for what promises to be a busy day, but don't forget we serve right through until 9pm so we should be able to fit you in somewhere!
Father's Day, Sun 21 June, 12pm til 9pm
SUMMER SOLSTICE
Friday, June 4th, 2010
It's almost six months now since we held our Winter Solstice at the Jockey, and what a great night it was, with snow falling on the ground, kids queuing up to meet Santa, a brass band playing, a hog roasting on the terrace and hundreds of people singing carols.
Well the long nights are with us now, so it must be time for our inaugural Summer Solstice!
The hog roast is back, along with the brass band, but this time we've got rides for the kids, street theatre and entertainers. Fun in the sun for all the family.
We've fixed the weather for the day so this promises to be the community event of the summer.
It's happening early, 6pm til 9pm, so bring the kids and celebrate in true Chorlton style.

ACOUSTIC NIGHT JUNE
Friday, June 4th, 2010
This month sees us welcome the Nick Holmes Band to the Jockey for our monthly acoustic night.
Their forthcoming album, Fundanatural, has been described as “an urban folk-rock of poached acoustic white soul flavoured with a soupcon of fresh bossa nova and a drizzle of balsamic jazz delivered with not a little panache.”
Check out www.fundanatural.co.uk for sneak previews.
"Nick Holmes can turn a cliche into a catch-phrase and a platitude into a stinging sentence that loops around your brain for a decade." - Melvyn Bragg
